With the core AR mechanics now in place, it’s time for us to take on our next major challenge: creating the Action RPG experience at the heart of Reality Rift.
In many ways, this stage is both easier and far more demanding than the one before it.
Unlike AR, the Action RPG genre has been shaped by decades of incredible games. We have the privilege of learning from giants such as Diablo, Path of Exile, Titan Quest, and many others that have defined what players love about fast-paced combat, character progression, and the endless pursuit of better loot.
But inspiration comes with its own challenges.
The last thing we want is to fall into the trap of meaningless imitation. Simply recreating what has already been done would be the safest option — but it wouldn’t be Reality Rift. Our goal is to build something that captures the feelings we want players to experience: excitement, discovery, meaningful progression, and the thrill of overcoming increasingly dangerous encounters.
Finding the right balance won’t be easy.
We don’t want gameplay to become overly simplistic and shallow. At the same time, we don’t want to overwhelm players with unnecessary complexity. We want combat that feels familiar enough for Action RPG fans to instantly understand, yet distinctive enough to surprise them. Systems that reward mastery without becoming inaccessible. Mechanics that encourage experimentation without turning into confusion.
How do you preserve originality in a genre where it sometimes feels like everything has already been invented?
That is exactly the question we will be working to answer in the coming months.
It’s an exciting challenge, and one we’re eager to embrace. The worlds of Reality Rift are taking shape, and now it’s time to give them a gameplay experience worthy of exploring them.
Stay tuned — the next chapter of development is just beginning
